Lesson 4: Social Bookmarking

Before you began this course, what arrangements did you make (or still do) to save your favourite web pages? What provisions do you make to be able to access them whenever and wherever you need them?
Actually, I did nothing to save them. When I need to access them outside, I send the URL to my e-mail account such as yamata. Of course, I have to do it before going outside. So it sometimes bothered me. Or I can just search the web pages again.

1. How to use Delicious. Take some time to view a couple of these presentations on Delicious 1 2 3 4 (easiest first, more detailed last). Please focus on identifying what you already know, as well as two or three things that you did not know, which may make studying easier for you. You should take some notes.
I know nothing about Delicious before starting this lesson. It is because I didn't think bookmarks are important and very useful. As I mentioned above, I can search with search engines again and again as long as I remember the term to search them.

1. What are the main skills needed to use Delicious?
We don't need any special skills. What we have to do is to make an account, choose web pages and organize them. The last one is somehow important to have a comfortable learning environment. We can do it with tags.

2. What are the affordances of social bookmarking (what does it make possible, what does it impede)?
We can access our favorite web pages whenever and wherever we want. Also we can find new useful web pages checking others' Delicious. At the same time, we can send information of our favorite web pages through publishing them.

3. How can Delicious be used to network professionally and connect you (& other students) to learning resources?
It can be a tool to interact favorite web pages. In terms of research, web pages which has big amount of visitors may make a main stream in that field. To check these sites is very important. Also these pages with many supporters tend to be useful and well-organized. In order to learn efficiently, it is good to use them.

4. What skills and understandings have you learned about social bookmarking that may promote your development as an effective learner in the digital age?
Through social bookmarking systems, we can see how popular the web page is. It means that the web page is supported by many people. Therefore the page must have something attractive. The social bookmarking can be a guide for us to have an efficient research.
